Who we are:

KAIROS BC-Yukon is a network of individuals, groups, and faith-based organizations that live out the mandate of the national KAIROS organization in this particular region of Canada.  There is no membership fee required to join, nor do you have to be a member of a spiritual or faith-based community.

What we do:

KAIROS unites churches and religious organizations in a faithful ecumenical response to the call to "do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God" (Micah 6:8).  We deliberate on issues of common concern, advocate for social change and join with people of faith and goodwill in action for social transformation.

What does the word "kairos" mean?

Kairos is a Greek word that has several meanings, but the definitions that best inform the way we work are:
  • a moment of crisis and opportunity
  • a moment when change is possible
Kairos moments happen regularly and our task as a network is to lift them up and encourage people to take actions for justice.

But when it gets right down to it...

The KAIROS BC-Yukon network consists of people who have chosen to walk the path of justice and peace out of deeply held spiritual beliefs or value systems.  We try to walk the talk in our groups and as individuals -- not always an easy task in our increasingly materialistic, self-centered world.

But there is strength in numbers, as well as support, learning, and an opportunity to live in community with those who want to make a difference.  KAIROS BC-Yukon is action-oriented, but building relationships with one another and taking time to celebrate life grounds and energizes our work.

Community, learning, reflection, action, and celebration: that's the KAIROS way of taking faithful action for justice!
